Spring Fundraiser for the Kid's Garden
All Month Long
Every year visitors to Wonder Works donate to make the Kid's Garden possible, and in return have the opportunity to paint and plant their very own custom planter. This year, donors will also be supporting a monthly series of garden themed workshops, running each month starting in April. These free workshops (with paid admission to the museum) offer an in-depth child guided study of various aspects of gardening and always include a special craft project. Any excess funds raised will be used to purchase new toys for the museum. Follow these links for more information on the Kid’s Garden or the Spring Fundraiser.
Thursday, June 1, 5pm to 7pm
Wonder Works is staying open late for our members! The first Thursday of every month, from 5pm to 7pm will allow members to come in (or stay in!) and enjoy Wonder Works in the evening. We will be hosting special events, such as our Nature and Science programming and have a special craft just for our members.

Wednesday, June 7, 4pm to 8pm
Stop by Chipotle in Oak Park on Wednesday, June 7 between 4pm and 8pm with this flyer and Wonder Works will receive a donation of 50% of your total bill.
Garden Workshop: Composting
Saturday, June 10, 10:30am to noon
Stop by Wonder Works and join Master Gardner's from the University Illinois Extension for a discussion and demonstration of three bin composting! This is an exciting way to re-purpose waste, that may otherwise make it's way to our landfills, into black gold for your garden and lawn. Children will also have an opportunity to make compost related arts and crafts after this exciting workshop. This workshop is Covered by General Admission.
Nature and Science at Wonder Works
Nature and Science at Wonder Works is a hands-on science program for young children, created and implemented by Wonder Works’ resident scientist and early learning specialist, Eric Gyllenhaal. Nature and Science at Wonder Works takes place every Friday, from 10am until noon and is covered by General Admission.
June 1 5-7pm and June 2: Rocks for Play and Learning
We will have lots of rocks at Wonder Works today, including big rocks to touch, smaller rocks to sort, and tiny rocks to sift from the art-room sandbox. You also can transport coal and iron ore on our O-scale model railway and collect rocks of many different colors. The play-dough table will be set up as a quarry, where diggers and dump trucks excavate rocks and crystals and wooden trains haul them all away.
June 9: Animals with Bones
Find out which animals have bones inside and what their bones look and feel like. See skeletons of snake, turtle, bird, and rabbit, and touch bones and skulls from several kinds of mammals. Play with pretend bones in the Great Outdoors exhibit and excavate pretend skeletons from play dough. Touch real fur and feathers from animals with bones and play with plastic and plush versions of animals with bones.
June 16: Air-powered Toys
Moving air can power airplanes, helicopters, boats, and many other kinds of vehicles. At this week’s program, you can launch a paper helicopter, drop a parachute, release a balloon-powered vehicle, help the wind-blow sailboats across the water, and fly aircraft powered by your imagination. You can also make your own burst of wind using an empty plastic jug or our more powerful air cannon.
June 23: What's Inside?
Today we will use our senses of touch, hearing, and sight to discover what’s inside a variety of natural and human-make objects. Reach inside a box and let your sense of touch tell you what it holds. Shake a container to see if you can tell what’s inside just by listening. We will look at skeletons and X-rays and take apart toys to see if we can figure out how they work. There also will be magic tricks that you can figure out once you look below the surface.
June 30: Transportation Works
Let gravity do the work as you race toy cars down ramps and through tunnels. Then let spinning wheels propel toy cars in loop-de-loops around a battery-powered raceway. There will be more wooden trains than usual, plus an O-scale model railway where you can take your turn as engineer. The play-dough table will be set up as a construction site, with diggers, dump trucks, and plastic construction workers. You’ll find more construction vehicles in our pebble-filled pool and in the art-room sandbox.
The following events run weekly in May, and are included with general admission to the museum. Membership to Wonder Works gives you unlimited visits and unlimited access to all of these great activities.
