Sunday afternoon concert series continues with a holiday performance from child development specialist, musician and Wonder Works friend, Jim Gill

Oak Park, Illinois - December 7, 2009 - Wonder Works, a Children’s Museum in Oak Park, continues on with its Sunday Concert Series with a holiday performance by Jim Gill on Sunday, December 20, at 4 pm. Tickets are $6 for members, $9 for non-members and free for children under age one.

A Wonder Works favorite, Jim has produced five recordings of music play activities that have received awards from both the American Library Association and the Parents’ Choice Foundation. The acclaimed author and musician also recently performed with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra in a one-hour presentation of “Symphonic Music Play.” A trained child development specialist, Gill has been educating, entertaining and delighting children for more than 20 years.

The museum will close at 3:30 pm on the day to non-ticket holders and remain open for concert-goers.

The 2009-2010 Concert Series performances also include:

  • Award-winning songwriter Thaddeus Rex returns to Wonder Works on January 24 to give a performance the Washington Post describes as part Monty Python, part Dr. Seuss. His concerts are radically engaging, mixing captivating music with hilarious interaction and a 6-foot dinosaur friend. A PBS veteran by way of the Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids show, “The Friday Zone,” Thaddeus Rex has won multiple awards including the grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Publisher Weekly’s Listen Up Award and a Parents’ Choice Award.
  • “The First Lady of the Children’s Folk Song,” Ella Jenkins will lead a sing along on Sunday, February 21. The recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (NARAS) at the 2004 Grammy’s, Jenkins has gained knowledge and inspiration by performing and working with children on seven continents for four decades.
  • As the grand finale, on Sunday, March 21, Musician Paul Crowe, better known as Crusty Booger, will lead his band The Boogers in a rock ‘n’ roll children’s concert. With a Ph.D in Developmental Psychology from Loyola University, Crusty uses call and response, rhyme, dance and unique melodies to both entertain and educate children. The Boogers’ unique concerts feature music that crosses several genres including jazz, funk, reggae and lame rock to produce a fresh and engaging experience for the entire family.

Wonder Works, a Children’s Museum in Oak Park, provides a hands-on environment, which promotes creativity, exploration and learning through play, intended to strengthen the social, emotional and intellectual development of children up to age 10.
