Cicada Programming

  • Cicada Programming at Wonder Works

  • Wonder Works is gearing up to be both a quiet place to escape the cicadas and a place to learn about our noisy visitors.

On Thursdays and Saturdays at 11am in May our cicada story times will help children better understand all of the cicadas coming to Chicago in the next few weeks. We are sensitive to the fact that cicadas may be overwhelming to children (and some of their parents too!) so will be using books such as Cicada Symphony by Sue Fliess and Cecily Cicada by Kita Helmeta Murdoch to educate families about cicadas.

Children process their feelings with play and we have play materials such as plastic cicadas, puppet cicadas, and real cicada skeletons for children to handle and investigate. Noise canceling headphones are available at the museum for any child feeling sensory overload.
